By now we are all aware of the "green revolution" that is sweeping our nation. From cable channels dedicated to green living, seaweed T-shirts, bamboo jeans and fair-trade silk blouses, going "green" is becoming a lifestyle choice. These choices are increasing by the day.
The "green" movement is now embraced by the food industry. In addition to seeking companies with sustainable farming practices with all-natural organically and locally grown food and humanely treated animals, consumers are demanding more from producers. Concern for the environment and safeguarding the food supply has become increasingly important to food producers too. "Green" is being implemented in the food industry.

· This month's Specialty Food Entrepreneur "Mini-Case" Study and Website: Mompreneurs! !

The Niche Creation of Mompreneurs!
When the first edition of From Kitchen to Market was published in 1992, it was in direct response to women looking to start a business using a home-produced, family recipe. They needed solid business advice on how to produce and market their product to the gourmet food industry with minimal cost and wasted expense.
Look how that market has exploded in the 21st century!
Mompreneurs is a term trademarked by authors Patricia Cobe and Ellen Parlapiano. Check their website for more information.
Mompreneurs have taken all market segments by storm, including the specialty food trade. These women have put a "first" career on hold to begin their families and while at home, began a "second" home- based career.
These Mompreneurs all have a real passion for their products or services that fill a niche they found lacking in the marketplace when they went looking. They learned the importance of writing a solid business plan to secure the necessary funding, to find the right manufacturer and effectively market and sell their products at trade shows. They were savvy enough to realize that others wanted what they had to offer
TIME Magazine has identified some Mompreneur front line leaders as Lisa Duxman, creator of Stroller Strides, Julie Aigner, developer of Baby Einstein (sold to Disney!), and Susan Lavalle of Moxie Moms.
Have you started a Mompreneur specialty food business? How easy or hard was it? Challenges? Successes? How much did it cost? Is Disney calling to acquire your product?
