A "GUIDELINE FOR SUCCESS - in just nine years?" -

FRITO LAY BUYS NASFT MEMBER STACY'S PITA CHIPS.

In the book, "From Kitchen to Market - Selling Your Gourmet Food Specialty," I use numerous "Guidelines for Success" to illustrate various means of assuring a profitabale outcome in your specialty food business. Here is an example of doing just the right thing, at the right time, in the right manner. Stacy's Pita Chip Company, only nine years old, innovated and created a response to a perceived consumer need: pita chips. This was done even though their main business was pita bread sandwiches, not chips. "Who would have thought?" Their product line is now what I call a "transition" product in that it has transitioned from the usually up-market specialty food trade to the "down market" supermarket trade. Congratulations to Stacy's Pita Chips!

·  NOTES AND COMMENT

"ORGANIC STANDARDS TO BE WEAKENED," claim opponents to a recent House Agriculture Bill rider. We invited Veggie Brothers partner Mark Rasmussen to comment.

When government agencies primed by corporate interests wanted to paint a rosy picture of GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) products, the organic industry unleashed a marketing attack of their own. The outcome was a stronger public interest in organics and a stronger distrust of GMO products.
